On the 17th of June 2009, we had the privilege to have Dr Tyrone Wei, DC, DACBR provide a presentation on " C-SPINE RADIOLOGY: From a Chiropractor’s View: Assessment of soft tissue injuries of the cervical spine: motion x-rays and MRI".

Dr Tyrone Wei, DC, DACBR is a Chiropractic Radiologist from Portland Oregon. In the past 26 years of Radiology practice, he has lectured extensively on the topic of Radiology and for the past 5 years on MRI in the US.

Dr Wei practices Radiology full time and reads for 3 Diagnostic Imaging Centers.  In the past 3 years, his Centers have developed protocols in flexion extension cervical MRI correlating to flexion extension x-rays, and craniocervical MRI to study alar and transverse ligament injuries.

The outline of Dr. Wei's presentation included:

1.  Flexion and extension, open mouth lateral bending x-rays

2.  Flexion and extension MRI

3.  Craniocervical MRI

The presentation is designed to demonstrate injury to the craniocervical ligaments, specifically the alar and transverse ligaments by MRI and correlation to instability established by motion x-ray study.

Assessment of dynamic spinal cord impingement by flexion and extension MRI which is often unrecognized in the routine neutral MRI.  This is also correlated to instability established by motion x-ray study. Supporting scientific literature will be presented.
